Meghan Markle’s Director of Communications Exits Role After a Few Months on the Job

Before joining the couple’s team in late May, Emily Robinson worked at Netflix as a Senior Director of Publicity. Robinson has since departed her position as director of communications for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after a few months, the Daily Mail reported on Friday, Oct. 24. She’s among several communications staffers who have exited the Sussexes’ team in recent years. A source tells that Robinson left on her own accord . Robinson has not updated her LinkedIn to include a mention of her time working for Meghan, 44, and Prince Harry, 41, at this time. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tells PEOPLE, "Ms. Robinson oversaw project-based work for a very successful season of With Love, Meghan and additional support for the production company." “She did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success,” the spokesperson concludes. Since relocating from the U.K. to California in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have had several staffing changes. It was revealed in June this year that Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and U.K. press officer Charlie Gipson had departed a year after they were brought on. Last year, their global press secretary and head of communications, Ashley Hansen, also parted ways with the couple as she launched her own communications firm. Liam Maguire, who is the director of communications in Europe, and Meredith Maines, who is the couple’s chief communications officer, remain in their roles. Former publicists James Holt and Miranda Bardot have been promoted to non-PR roles. Robinson’s announcement comes just weeks after Meghan faced criticism during Paris Fashion Week, after sharing a video on Instagram showing herself riding through the city. Critics claimed the clip was insensitive and appeared to have been filmed near the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, where Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died at age 36 in 1997. In response to the backlash, a source told the Daily Mail, "Harry was left hurt and upset. Diana’s death was used as a stick to beat his wife with. [Meghan] did not even pass close to the tunnel. The whole thing is a joke, but not a very funny one for Harry." A source close to the Duke of Sussex told PEOPLE at the time that Harry will always protect his wife and family from what he sees as unkind, negative and agenda-driven media narratives. They added, "He was left feeling hurt, but the depressing thing is he wasn’t even that surprised. He was more despondent than shocked." Meghan rejoined Instagram at the start of 2025 and has mostly shared a glimpse into their family life with son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4, along with promoting her lifestyle brand, As ever.
