Tatler released its annual best-dressed list, with the Princess of Wales, 44, taking the top spot. The magazine described Kate as “Britain’s chicest figure” whose outfits “light up royal occasions,” adding that she was “back to health — and back to being a Brit-fashion heroine” after her 2024 cancer diagnosis. Princess Kate has been crowned Tatler’s best dressed numerous times before, most recently in 2022. As she takes the number one spot again, Kate reclaims the title from 2025 dual winners Lady Lola Bute and Jazzy de Lisser. In 2024, another member of the British royal family took the top spot: Prince William’s cousin Princess Beatrice, whom the magazine dubbed the “princess of perfection,” praising her as a “beacon of sartorial elegance, pairing vintage-inspired cuts with fresh-from-the-catwalk glamour.” This year’s style ranking also included British track and field athlete Temi Ojroa, Bridgerton actress Hannah Dodd and Salma Hayek’s daughter Valentina Pinault. Princess Kate spent much of 2024 out of the public eye amid her cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. She announced in early 2025 that she was in remission and gradually returned to a fuller schedule of royal duties. This year marked a major step in her recovery as the Princess of Wales undertook her first royal visit abroad since her diagnosis, visiting Reggio Emilia in northern Italy to learn about their approach to early childhood learning. The Princess of Wales’ recent style has ranged from red carpet glam at the BAFTA awards to summertime chic on the sidelines of a charity polo match. For royal outings, she’s continued to pick midi-length dresses paired with elaborate headpieces and enviable suits as her uniform. Her most regal look of 2026 so far came at the Nigerian state banquet in March, when she paired Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara (her go-to royal headpiece) with a green gown by Andrew Gn. Princess Kate has a few rules she follows when it comes to her fashion, including not being afraid of recycling a favorite piece — sometimes even years apart! From red carpet gowns to more casual jackets, the royal is often seen repeating articles of clothing that are already in her closet. The Princess of Wales was seen recycling outfits in the wake of the former Prince Andrew’s arrest in February, something fashion stylist Lisa Talbot said was a “very intentional” move. Talbot told the Daily Mail, “Rewearing subtly communicates steadiness and humility. It signals continuity, responsibility and respect for the moment. In situations where public sensitivity is heightened, the most powerful style statement can often be restraint.” “At times when the wider royal family is under scrutiny, clothing becomes less about fashion and more about message,” the stylist continued. “By choosing familiar pieces from her existing wardrobe, she removes any distraction and keeps the focus on her role and her work rather than what she’s wearing.” Princess Kate also picked up a style rule from Queen Elizabeth: wearing bright colors in order to stand out in a crowd. In the documentary The Queen at 90, the Queen’s daughter-in-law Sophie, now the Duchess of Edinburgh, said: “She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the Queen.’” Sophie added, “Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.” SOURCE: People
