Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Next Joint Outing Revealed as They Head to a Special Place

Kensington Palace confirmed on Feb. 20 that the Prince and Princess of Wales will visit Pontypridd in south Wales on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The royals are making the trip before St. David's Day, a day of national celebration for Wales, on March 1 and will meet members of the local community to learn about life in the town. Pontypridd was hit with severe flooding from Storm Bert and Storm Darragh in December 2024 and the couple will hear from local people who were affected then. The Prince and Princess of Wales will pack several stops into their trip to Wales, kicking off the visit at the historic Pontypridd Market to meet local business owners and have the chance to prepare Welsh cakes. Princess Kate is sure to ace the cake-making, as she's known to bake birthday cakes for her children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. Princess Kate, 43, and Prince William, 42, will then head to the Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland. The community garden was established in 2021 as a safe place for all, and the royals will see how locals restored it to full splendor after the space was affected by the flooding in December. They'll also hear about why the community garden is so special to the people of Pontypridd as a restorative place in nature, a sentiment Princess Kate referenced when discussing what brought her strength after undergoing chemotherapy treatment. "I really felt like I needed to get the sun. You need loads of water and loads of sunlight," the Princess of Wales said at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London on Jan. 14, the Daily Mail reported. The surprise stop was Kate's first solo engagement in over a year, as she was outside of the limelight for most of 2024 after sharing last March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer. The Princess of Wales revealed in September that she completed chemotherapy, and her January visit to the Royal Marsden came with the confirmation that she had received treatment there during her cancer journey. Later that day, Princess Kate relayed with "relief" that she was in "remission" and looked forward to "a fulfilling year ahead." The Princess of Wales shared a poignant photo of herself enjoying nature just a few days later on Feb. 3, the eve of World Cancer Day. "Don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease. C," she wrote below the photo of herself standing and smiling in the woods, taken by Prince Louis and adding the hashtag #WorldCancerDay. Princess Kate made her first appearance after announcing that she was in remission from cancer by joining Prince William at a ceremony commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day in late January. Wales is a meaningful place for the royal couple, who lived there before and after their royal wedding in 2011 while William worked as a search and rescue pilot at RAF Anglesey. The special connection strengthened when King Charles made his eldest son the Prince of Wales upon his accession to the throne in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth. Kate became the Princess of Wales in the same sweep, and the couple memorably visited Wales as soon as practically possible for their first outing following the Queen's death. Prince William and Princess Kate most recently visited Wales in October 2023 to mark the start of Black History Month. There, they met members of the Windrush generation and learned more about the work of diverse community groups. When William and Kate were given their new royal titles, those close to the couple underscored their commitment to Wales and its people.
